Google Analytics

What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is a powerful data collection tool that scrapes data from all of your web page visitors. It puts the power into the marketer’s hands by allowing the marketer to gain insight on many different data points about the user. This in turn will allow the marketer to show more targeted and effective ads to the end user, leading to higher revenue.

Data Tracked by Google Analytics

  • How many people visit my website?
  • Where do my visitors live?
  • Do I need a mobile-friendly website?
  • What websites send traffic to my website?
  • What marketing tactics drive the most traffic to my website?
  • Which pages on my website are the most popular?
  • How many visitors have I converted into leads or customers?
  • Where did my converting visitors come from and go on my website?
  • How can I improve my website’s speed?
  • What blog content do my visitors like the most?
  • What are the demographics of my visitors?

How do I set up Google Analytics?

1. Use a Google account to create your Google analytics account.

2. Setup an account name. I usually use the domain name or business name on the account name. I have named the account “Wolf Ads” here.

3. Setup a website name. I just use the domain name here. I am using “www.wolfads.com” here.

4. Then enter your website URL. If you have SSL or a secure site, make sure you use https://. I am also using “www.wolfads.com” here.

5. Choose your industry category. I’ve selected “Business and Industrial Markets”.

6. Then choose your time zone. I am in EST so I’ve applied that here.

7. Data sharing settings. I just leave this setting on default. (optional)

Capture

You will be able to get the tag code after the online form is filled out. Apply this tag to the header of the page that you would like to track via Google Analytics. Please note that you would need to either have admin access to the site or have the site owner place your Google Analytics tag on their page.

Ultimately, the benefit of adding Google Analytics to your site’s tracking arsenal is that it collects very precise data which can be used to more effectively target your visitors. GA is a very versatile product. You can create many different dashboards and custom reports. Feel free to tailor your layout and reporting in a way which makes sense to your business model.
